Heather Fleuriet, MA, LPA
Heather Fleuriet, MA, LPA is a Licensed Psychological Associate who received her Master’s in Psychology from University of North Carolina Wilmington. Heather’s background and experience includes working with children and adolescents in the community-based and in home settings; working with college students on a university campus; as well as working with adults in an outpatient setting. Although Heather treats a variety of psychological problems, she is trained in EMDR and specializes in working with individuals with trauma.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. Heather is now offering EMDR intensives which involve 3-4 hours of EMDR to fast track trauma work.
“Often times, people have trauma or distress from their childhood when their needs were not met. These types of experiences have altered the way they view themselves, the world and their future. They begin to look outside of themselves to have their needs met; which ultimately leads to dissatisfaction and being unfulfilled. I like to help a person explain to themselves why they think and behave the way they do. Then help them to learn to validate their own needs and skills. I help people navigate the negative core beliefs about themselves and where they come from.
A lot of people don’t realize how their first attachment- their caregivers- will influence their attachment to people and things in the rest of their life. We must partner together to help you gain insight into your own experience and core beliefs and then allow this insight to guide change in the present.”
Heather’s therapeutic approach is based on the idea that people are in control of their own outcomes and simply need a little guidance to tap into the resources and empowerment that they already have within themselves. If you are looking for someone to hold space for you to learn about yourself on a deeper level and feel empowered to make changes in yourself and life, then Heather may be the right therapist for you.
